Creating a blueprint for future smart cities at Expo 2020 Dubai – Talk with Siemens CTO Roland Busch

hi my name is Roland Busch. I’m CTO of
Siemens. I’m here at the Expo 2020 site in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates and
this is the site which will open end of next year for 25 million visitors. It
will be the most digital and most connected Expo ever and it will host
also the largest Siemens Building Technologies installation in the world
and today we had a major milestone. Namely we connected the Expo site for the first time to the Internet of Things – with our MindSphere platform. I do
have here Afzal. He is the maestro of MindSphere. He is responsible for MindSphere
and the automatic control system. So tell me a little about the most connected
Expo! What does that mean? Hi Roland. As you mentioned we’re talking about 25 million visitors, visiting Expo Dubai 2020 and we
are talking about developing a cloud use case. So what we did is, we have developed an app which is a cloud app which is running on our MindSphere IOT
cloud. What we’ve done is we looked at three different domains. So tell me about the apps. What do we have here? We are covering three different domains these are the key ingredients of any
city for example: Enrollment to monitoring, smart irrigation and smart
lighting. Here we can see the dashboard tells you
about where is sensor data like the station giving us data about the
wind speed and humidity and other stuff. We are looking at air quality and water
quality details. When we just click on this I would get the data straight away
just to analyze it. Once we are there we can also actually go… How is the air quality? Air quality looks good today. We have a good […] the key
parameters are all working fine. We’re talking about data coming in from the sensors. So we are collecting the data, we ware correlating, the data and visualizing the data. So that’s that’s the app we have. In essence should
we talk about a smart digital city. The focus is to actually make Expo more sustainable and having the user
experience out of that. Right now, we are looking at connecting the first site,
which is the export project office and from there on we’re trying to filter
data from there and slowly take it into prediction. So that we can predict and
operate the site from there. This happens only with great partner so we we feel really
honored to be a partner here at Expo 2020. It’s a great team which is working
here and also the other companies, which are working with us and making that
happen. Hopefully we can see MindSphere being
an operating system for other cities. For those who are interested come visit Expo 2020 and enjoy.
