♪ How deep is your love ♪ – We’re on our way to Toronto. 90-minute flight for Shopify Unite. Looking forward to it. – [Kurt] Is this your first time at Unite? – First time. I have a small slack group
full of Shopify developers. Kinda the demographic of this event. So it made sense that I was gonna go. (upbeat music) – I got up this morning at
three and just got here now. It’s what, almost seven o’clock? (upbeat music) So it was a good trip, day-long trip. – It is day two of Shopify Unite. Yesterday was, we’ll call it day zero, the pre-day where they do workshops. We went up on the CN Tower and had dinner hosted by the folks
from Gorgeous in Shogun. But today we’re going
to go to Shopify Unite. Pick up our badges and hear the keynote. That’s where we’re going to get all the big news and announcements. And then the rest of the afternoon I’m going to be talking to
people, shooting interviews. Picking their brains and
seeing what we can learn. – [Kurt] All right we got video here. – Oh boy. Welcome to Shopify Unite 2019. I think the closing talk
is going to be special. – Okay, that’s the one to watch. – Yeah. I think that’s probably going to be a pretty big needle mover. I mean, everything that
we’re announcing is special. I mean, I think it’s a big step forward for entrepreneurship
today in a lot of ways. ( upbeat music) – It is my great pleasure to
welcome all of you to Toronto. ( upbeat music) – All right, we just heard the announcements at Shopify Unite. A lot of chatter about it. And I want to talk to all these fine folks and see what their take is. – I think that the fulfillment
center news is awesome. Also the new, I think they’re going to be
called Shipping Profiles. – Just that their going to
squeeze a little bit on Amazon. I think that’s my favorite part. – The editing of the other pages is the announcement we like. – Shopify fulfillment centers. That’s mind blowing. – Fulfillment is huge. It’s such a ballsy move of
Shopify to go big like that. – For me, and probably with everybody else it’s the fulfillment,
the fulfillment center. So I’m a theme developer. But being able to add
an additional sections to the product page without
having to go into the code and let the client or the merchants actually mange it themselves. It’s going to be a game changer for sure. – Adding sections to different pages. That gives a lot of
opportunity for user experience and better content and better design. – Most exciting development at Unite, the fulfillment center. I mean that’s pretty crazy. They’re putting that together and that’s going to be a big
win for small merchants. – Want the waited on announcement? Maybe was the language, language feature. – It’s just so cool to
see people come together and literally unite over
this one like company that’s actually brought all these other companies together in
this amazing ecosystem. Like, I’m literally getting chills talking about it right now so. – We’re going to reach out
to a lot of our clients , new and old, tell them about all the updates and try to help
them with their businesses. Grow them with all these awesome updates. – Well I’ve already signed up
for the fulfillment network. Having that product
closer to the consumers is key moving forward so you
can compete with Amazon. So a small merchant can
compete with Amazon. ( upbeat music) – I think a highlight so far again has been meeting the people. The people are very awesome. It’s very friendly. There’s a lot of
corporative energies going. So, I’m just looking forward
to seeing where this goes. (upbeat music) – This is where it’s at
when it comes to Shopify. – Where you get to see the people in person that you’ve been working with. Meet new people. Just like an incredible
experience here at Unite. – That Shopify is absolutely
the best platform. – Very excited about subscription stuff. We’re working that space. So exciting to see what happens there. – You know what? The checkout and the point
of sale customizations. That’s going to allow
us to pull down a lot of functionality , that currently been reserved
for you know bigger clients, just down to everybody. So that was real exciting. – I mean physical locations, warehousing. I mean these are the big big big big problems that merchants
have to deal with everyday. So I think the fact that their going to make a billion dollar
investment in that space is. It’s gonna do some good
like significantly, yeah. – Multi-store administration
is a massive one for us. We’ve built a lot of custom apps for us to be able that across 20
different Shopify Plus stores. For that data to be native
to us as a single log in is going to be a game changer for us. – Shopify is doing so well as a platform. The partners here. I mean everyone is hugging. It’s just this comradery that
is so special to Shopify. – Basically what we’re doing
is we’re giving merchants a way to create rich experiences through great content creation tools
on any page of their website. We’re going to have a great page editing experience full stop. – I think the future of retail
will be retail everywhere online, offline, on market place
and social media platforms. What Shopify is becoming
and continue to be is this global retail operating system. But I think it’s probably
the most exciting time of retail in the last 150 years. I’m just very honored and
grateful to be part of it. – So in Shopify now you can
just drag a 3D model right into the product page
like you would with photo. Now you can also do it
with videos as well. And what that does is that
when a buyer goes to your store they’ll be able to see a
3D model of your product, like this stroller right here. And this is 3D right on the web. They don’t need to download
any sort of special app or plug in this is running
right on their browser. Whether it’s on mobile or desktop. – Who is in front of me? But one of the best
partners we have that’s been around for the longest time
in a camouflage jacket. My friend, Kurt Elster and I’m just hugging you in the
hallway just 10 minutes ago. It’s really on of the
best parts of my day. (upbeat music) – Debrief, 2019. – [Kurt] What is that? – It’s an opportunity for
Shopify Partners and agencies to come together to dissect
all the announcements of Unite. (upbeat music) – I think one of the biggest announcements that we all heard about
early on in the keynote was around sections coming
to everything in themes. They way they talked about it is almost a paradigm shift in the
way that we can think of building themes for the future. – The way I look at it is, any tool that Shopify gives
us to help us develop apps. Is a present. It’s a gift to us. They don’t have to do those things. – So I think relationships are really what has gotten us to where we are today and will continue to grow the ecosystem. – I have noticed a sea change occur when I log into our partner portal and we look at the managed stores. This year for the first time I noticed like the first page was 90% Plus stores. When stores adopt Plus
it is not about size. It is about the pains and
problems it can solve. (upbeat music) – Well I think that my take away is that the future of commerce is not about how many pixels you move the buttons and how much you optimize the pages and all the little things. Those are critical and
all the apps and service and things that we use are
obviously very important but I think what is going
to happen moving forward and what is going to be important is all the story telling and the building communities and building relationships
with your customers. You know, the spiffy
slogans and quick overnight successes will happen to a few people but I think that where we as partners are going to come in is helping merchants to tell their stories better.
