Friends Plugin for WordPress

Friends Plugin for WordPress

Hi, I am Alex Kirk and I’d like to show you my WordPress plugin for decentralized social networking, called Friends. This is my blog, I don’t post that much publically. but actually there’s more to it Let me log in to show you. I actually publish quite a bit –
just privately For example I have posted
about this video from Matt Mullenweg. Let’s visit his site I’d like to become friends with Matt so
that he can see my private posts So let’s add him as a friend This takes me back to the admin area of my site, I can send a friend request from here. So the friend request was sent,
and he was already added to my friends page Let’s go there On the Friends and Requests page, you can now see my pending friend request for matt.blog Let’s do some magic now
and pretend we’re Matt I’ll switch over to this red browser window As you can see, I’m logged in
to matt.blog as Matt Over here, there is a friend request waiting for me Let’s review it So akirk.blog wants to become friends with me Let’s check out the site first Alright, let’s become friends! So back to the friends page and let’s accept the friend request As you can now see the role of
akirk.blog has changed to Friend So when I now go to my friends page I can actually see his private posts here I can actually go to the post
on Alex’s site and will be logged in as matt.blog Let’s go ahead and post a comment So back to my own browser Let’s refresh the page As you can see the Pending Friend Request
has now changed to Friend By the way, this also works in the WordPress app since it all uses standard functionality
like users and user roles Here in the comment section
you can see Matt’s comment and on my friends page,
my posts are shown alongside his posts That’s actually only the start! I can also add subscriptions Let’s go to the friend requests page once again this time I’ll enter a site I’d like to follow the WordPress Tavern You can see it tells us that there is no
Friends plugin installed at wptavern.com but and I have a subscription for it Let’s check out the friends page to see
how the posts look there Going back to
the friends and request page you can now see my friend Matt and my subscription for
the WordPress Tavern one nice thing about subscriptions
is that you can get an e-mail for new posts You can also specify rules for incoming content Let’s say I’m not interested in the podcast episodes I can simply exclude them by
removing feed items that contain WPWeekly Let’s take a quick look at Settings Here you can change email notifications set the default role for
accepted friend requests and access OPML and RSS feeds let’s now take a look at how to post to
just your friends Let’s create a new post You’d enter your title and text by the way, you can specify visibility
for each Gutenberg block And instead of publishing you set the post visibility to Private You can see your post has now been
published to your site If we now switch back over to Matt’s browser
and refresh the page you can see that the private post
appears here let’s quickly check in an incognito
window Yes, the post is not visible for a random visitor So this has been a small tour of the
Friends plugin You can find it in the WordPress plugin directory and install it from there to your WordPress site If you take a look at the project page
on Github you can see some illustrations on how friend requests work This diagram highlights the idea behind
the Friends plugin as a decentralized social network everyone has their own site,
hosted where they want All of this uses quite basic and well-established
technology like RSS feeds so except for the protocol for
establishing friend requests via REST there is not a lot missing
to implement this on other platforms

How to copy and paste content from Word to WordPress – Step by step

How to copy and paste content from Word to WordPress – Step by step

hello this is Eduardo Ramos from the
Docxpresso developers team and I would like to show you how the Docxpresso
plugin for WordPress works and I would like first to stress the main goal of
this plug-in is too allow you to upload to WordPress any Content that you have
developed or generated with your favorite office suite
it may be Microsoft Office Libre Office or OpenOffice so let me start by opening
a document that we would like to upload to WordPress and in particular I’m
opening it in with the help of Microsoft Word as you see this document has some
text a nice chart some tags with additional formatting and another
section that includes some charts and some nicely formatted text ok
so what I’m going to do now is yes let me minimize this document well one
important thing is that as you see the document is safe in ODT format this is
no problem because all this standard of these suites including Microsoft Office
can save open edit in this format okay so whenever you’re working with
Microsoft Office well if you work with LibreOffice or OpenOffice it is the
native format see didn’t have to do anything but if you’re working with MS
Word for example when you save the document
you just have to go and choose that the format to save is open document text
okay let me minimize this document and lesson rate a new post okay so I go here
to the WordPress admin interface I click it add new and as you see here i as
always introduce some title and now if you have installed that expresso plugin
you will see this an extra button here if I click on it I will be able to
choose an existing document or go for example to upload files and I am going
to upload the document that you have just seen okay I say insert unless you
can see a shortcode appears if I now hit the preview button well I have just some
the banner of my WordPress website and here I have will have called my sample
document and as you can see hmm not only the document is pretty
faithfully represented but the charts have become active charts with the nice
have a script effects as you can see the document is reproduce very well okay
so there’s no much more to it hmm only to comment that you may also introduce
additional content in your post you don’t have to get all the content from
the document you can just write anything here okay and that content should also
be included in the past okay I hope that you find this plug-in interesting and it
will simplify your life to generate nicely formatted content for your
WordPress website thank you for your time

Connect Jetpack to WordPress.com in 60 seconds

Connect Jetpack to WordPress.com in 60 seconds

Hey WordPress fans! I just wanted to take a quick minute and show you how to connect Jetpack to a wordpress.com account. There are a lot of Jetpack features that will work without an account but there are several features of Jetpack that you must connect to wordpress.com in order to use. So i just want to quickly show you how to do that. There’s a few places that WordPress reminds you that you need to connect to jetpack. One is here on the dashboard, you’ll see this box here that has a connect jetpack button. Also if you go to Jetpack in your left hand navigation, you’ll see another connect Jetpack button here at the top of this page as well. You can click either button and they’ll both take you to the same place. If you’re already logged into wordpress.com with the account that you want to use, you might see a screen that looks something like this. So i’ve already logged in as the person that I want to set up Jetpack with so all i have to do is click the blue approve button. However, there is a sign in as a different user option, so if you need to sign in as somebody else, then go ahead and click sign in as a different user and you’ll be able to do that. You’ll also have the option to create a new account if you don’t have any wordpress.com account yet. Then go ahead and click the create a new account link and it’ll be pretty easy to set one up and it is also completely free to set up a wordpress.com account. But because i already have mine set up and i’m already logged in i’m just going to go ahead and click the blue approve button. You’ll see a message here at the top of the screen that says your site is now connected. That’s all that you should have to do. So you can continue just with a free account for life, so go ahead and click “select free” because we don’t need any other options at this point to work with Jetpack. Once you click the free plan, you should be redirected back to your WordPress dashboard for your site and you should now be connected to wordpress.com. You’ll see one of the features that you can use with Jetpack that you must be connected to wordpress.com in order to use is the site stats. And WordPress reminds us here at the top to go ahead and activate that. I would recommend that you activate site stats. It’s always good to have simple stats appearing in your dashboard for you or your users just to get a really quick check on the traffic for your site. I do also endorse Google Analytics and i highly recommend that you use that as well. But site stats by Jetpack is a really good way to just get a quick overview of some of the basics right there in your dashboard. But you’re all connected to Jetpack so now you can unlock and use all of Jetpack’s features. There are a couple of pro features in which you will need to upgrade your wordpress.com account in order to use, such as some of the backups, the spam protection, the malware scanning, and a few other things, but for the most part you can use most of Jetpacks features now that you’re connected to wordpress.com. If you guys need any help or have any questions, please leave a comment below and I’ll do my best to help you out.

Social Media Plugin for WordPress – Simple & Regularly Updated

Social Media Plugin for WordPress – Simple & Regularly Updated

When searching for the best social media plugin
for WordPress, you can be overwhelmed by the number of results. There are hundreds and thousands of plugins
out there, but you have no idea which one is perfect for your needs. Hey WordPress enthusiasts and content creators,
my name is Robert, and in this video, I will show you four Social Media plugins which might
be a good choice for any WordPress website. You may want something simple just for displaying
some social share icons that are well optimized for desktop as well as mobile devices. If you think about sharing your old blog posts
automatically to social media, from time to time, to platforms like Facebook, Twitter,
Linkedin, and so on, I’ve got something for you. I also tested some plugins for Facebook login
and Instagram feed. Before using any plugin on your website, I
would recommend making sure it is regularly updated and not loaded with unnecessary functionalities. I’ve already done that, so let’s get started. This plugin has more than 80K active users,
and just six social networks to choose from. I think Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest are
enough, at least for me, and I like that I can customize the floating sidebar and inline
content separately. If I authorize the app through Facebook, I
can display the Facebook share counts too, which could be perfect for social proof. The inline buttons look like this, and here
are the floating share icons which I can place to the right or left side of my screen. Orbit Fox, which is a plugin created by our
team of developers, gives me the same thing but with more Social Media platforms to choose
from, and I like that I can stick the buttons to the bottom of my screen on mobile. You may think I can be biased because Themeisle
or our collaborators are the developer team behind some of these great plugins. It’s like a car manufacturer talking about
the best cars in the world, right? Well, I am just a regular user and the video
guy on this channel, so I will point out the good things and also the bad things about
these plugins. Then you will decide if you want to use it
or not. Let’s go back to the plugin by Mediavine. Let me clarify that we are not sponsored by
them or any other plugin in this video. I have done my own research because I wanted
to have something fresh and simple for one of my new projects. To activate any of these buttons when users
visit my site using their mobile phones, I need to turn on “show on mobile” switch over
here. I have plenty of other settings to play with,
too many, I guess. I can change the shape, position, and other
things like post type display settings separately for each set of buttons, which is great. It’s simple and I like it. In the free version of this plugin, I only
have two social media platforms; Facebook and Twitter. For Linkedin, Tumblr, Pinterest, which by
the way, is an excellent social media channel for business, and Buffer, I need to get the
paid version. Now it’s much easier to connect with Facebook
and all other social media platforms. To connect Revive Old Posts with my social
media accounts, I need to sign in, or I can use my own keys as well. There are straightforward settings in the
general settings tab, and I can choose the post formating for each account. I think that the missing featured image from
posts shared to Facebook in the free version is a big downside. Once everything is set up and I click start
sharing over here, the plugin will do its job automatically, and I like the idea that
my old posts will come up more often on social media. Smash Balloon Social Photo Feed is a fairly
new plugin that will display Instagram posts from your business or personal account, on
your website. It is quite limited in its free version, but
the best thing about it is that you can use this shortcode to display your Instagram account
anywhere on your site. I don’t know if you can really gain more followers
by using it, and I can’t tell you how much it will slow down your website, but I think
almost a million users can’t be wrong. What other Social Media features you want
for your website? Maybe Social Login and Register? Let’s check out Nextend Social Login and Register. It looks like a professional and easy to use
WordPress plugin for a membership site. Once the plugin is activated and set up, my
visitors will be able to register and login by using their social profiles for providers
like Facebook, Google, Twitter, as well as Yahoo, WordPress.com, and all other providers
below. Including Amazon! Interesting. Besides that, they don’t need to wait for
validation emails or keep track of their username and password anymore. To configure the plugin, I need to click on
the Nextend Social Login link under settings over here. Then I need to click getting started for each
option I want to enable. If I enable the Facebook Login feature, in
the end, my login page will look like this, and I can click on Continue with Facebook
to log in if the user registration is allowed on my site. Perfect. There are other things you would like to try
on your WordPress website? Let’s talk about that in the comments section
below. I would like to chat with you and prepare
our next video based on your preferences. I can do specific reviews, a list of best
tools as well as full tutorials. Just let me know which one you need to know
more about. Keep up the good work and see you in the next
video. Cheers!
