California History Blueprint Luncheon: Beth Slutsky


It addresses these three key challenges in
California history education. First, is that there’s this lack of a diverse and rigorous curriculum for
California history. Nancy mentioned this at the very
beginning, but textbooks are seriously outdated in
California. Time and time again, when I work with
teachers, they say, as long as I’ve been a teacher we haven’t had
any new textbook adoptions. On top of that there’s just this general
lack of teacher resources to address student
deficiencies in this area. So, teachers themselves, if they don’t have up-to-date textbooks, they also
aren’t as prepared, because there’s no real resources, especially at the elementary
level. Teachers that go to get multiple subject
credentials, they have very little concrete California
history training. And then, because of this, we found out there is this real inadequate kind of
level of not just student engagement, which
Jasmine is excellent about talking about, but
achievement in literacy overall. So, what we kind of came up with is this
way of imagining how we would incorporate California history, both in the regional
narrative and in the national narrative. And we’ve identified these three themes. I’m gonna tell you really quickly because
I want Shelley to talk about a concrete
example. but, but this is how California is organized right now in the content
standards. California, it’s taught in grades four,
from really pre-contact ancient, beyond ancient
history, to modern day. We’ve all been talking around this. Chronologically. This is, you know, an unrealistic
expectation that a fourth grade teacher could tackle in a
school year. And on the ground, what happens at the
elementary level is that school year history centers
around projects. Like, of course, this mission project. But then you have this kind of hodgepodge
of the Gold Rush and then progressivism and then, if we’re lucky, the Great
Depression and then if we are even luckier, Suburbia. And what’s missing is this over arching
narrative that weaves together this story of California that makes sense both
as a state and as part of this nation. And the same mix of kind of a hodgepodge narrative holds through, holds true for
fifth grade, and then into eighth grade, when we cover kind
of the early Republic through end of the 19th
century. And then into the eleventh grade, 20th
Century and twelfth grade, Government. Now, kinda given the enormity of grade
levels that cover California history. What we wanna do is, we wanna develop
units around these three broad topics and make each topic, or each theme,
specific to each grade level. So, this is what we imagine. Thank you Nancy for the fancy graphic. So what we want to do is, we want to spend
time exploring how California history kind of
effects, unit A would be the people. Unit B is the place, or its environment. And Unit C is political and economic
resources. Because what we’re gonna argue is it’s
this interplay between these three themes that tell a coherent
narrative of California. And this can be done at every grade level that California is woven into the
narrative.

So first please log in to your Instagram. And then go back to your WordPress admin.
And go down to plugins, add new. And here in the search bar, please type in Instagram
and press enter. And i use this one Instagram Feed so please install now, and activate plugin.
And go down to Instagram feed and click on settings. So you can just click on this one,
and you will come here. You will have to authorize this Instagram widget so please enter authorize.
So now you get this access token number just copy that, and paste it in here. And this
one your user id, copy that and paste it in your user id like so. Ok so then we go down
to save changes. And next step customize your feed. So here you can customize your feed,
your height of feed, and your background color. Customize your photos , customize your header.
And this one is only for the pro version, and this is also pro so go down. Here you
can add load more button, and follow on Instagram button. And here you can add some custom CSS,
or custom JavaScript so after this you just click on save changes. And go to display your
feed. So now you want to copy this Instagram shortcode, just copy it. And now we go to
appearance and widgets. And find text widget, this one and add widget. So you can just enter
a title Instagram. And paste the Instagram shortcode., like that. Click on save. Lets
have a look on your homepage. Just go down and here you see Instagram. So this is your
profile picture, your username, and the image on your Instagram. And also follow on Instagram

Cakewalk by BandLab Tutorial (Part 6) – Effects & Plugins


Hey guys, in this video we’re going to cover
the effects and plugins available in Cakewalk by BandLab. Before starting, make sure you check out all
our previous videos in this series so you’re caught up on everything related to this software
so far. The main focus of this video will be on the
VST plugins and effects chains available. A lot of the mixing process in Cakewalk can
be done with the ProChannel through the console view, and that was covered in the previous
video. This video will cover all the different effects
that are available to work with instead of the ProChannel. The first thing we want to cover is how you
can add your own VST plugins to the software. Cakewalk is compatible with third party VST
plugins, but you need to configure it properly for them to show up. Go to the Edit menu at the top and select
Preferences. This will open a window. Scroll down to the section on VST settings. Add a VST Scan Path that corresponds to the
folder your third party plugins are in. Add that folder, then rescan for new plugins. Now these plugins should be available to use,
as long as they are compatible. All the audio effects are found in the Plugins
section on the right side of the default layout. To add a plugin to a track, just click and
drag it onto the FX rack on a track. There’s not really enough time to go through
every possible included effect in a lot of detail in this video, so I’ll cover some
of the important ones. Starting under delay, we have the Sonitus
Delay effect. This is a stereo delay effect with separate
controls for left and right channels. When the link button in the center is pressed,
they are both controlled at once. Otherwise they can be used separately. If they are different and then you link them,
they are changed by the same amount but the differences remains the same. The time is set based on musical time, and
the delay time is automatically calculated from the project tempo. The feedback sends the signal back through
the delay again, and the crossfeed sends one side to the other side. The Mix is used for the dry and wet balance. Next we move onto Dynamics. This is where we have boost and compression
effects. The first up is Boost11. All this does is add gain to your track. If it gets too high, the plugin acts as a
limiter. Next is the Sonitus Compressor. As with other compressor effects, we have
our threshold, ratio, attack and release controls. There’s also a knee to change between hard
and soft knee. That basically just determines whether the
compressor ratio changes immediately at the threshold, or gradually over the threshold. There’s also makeup gain, and an output
level meter we can monitor. The nice thing about this plugin is it allows
us to see where our level is on this graph while the sound is playing, and when the compressor
is enabled. The little circle moves up and down as the
level changes along the graph and you can see the gain reduction when it peaks. The next tool is the noise gate. We have a threshold, below which the noise
gate is active and causes noise reduction. The attack sets how long the transition is
when it comes on, the release sets how long the transition is when it turns off, and the
hold sets hold long after it drops below the threshold it will start to release. The depth sets the amount of gain reduction,
and the lookahead allows the noise gate to open up just before the sound starts so it
doesn’t cut off the beginning. The last dynamics tool is the multiband compressor. This allows you to apply compression at different
levels to different frequencies. On the bottom left, we can slide the frequency
cutoffs around for each band of the multiband compressor. At the top left, we can set the threshold
for each band. The standard, ratio, knee, gain, attack, and
release controls for each band of the compressor are in the bottom corner. Under EQ, we find the Sonitus Equalizer plugin. This is a 6 band parametric equalizer. On the left, the yellow buttons allow us to
enable or disable each band. The drop down selects the filter, between
peak and dip, high or low shelf, and high and low pass filters. Frequency sets what frequency that band is
centered at. The Q sets the width of the band, and the
gain sets the boost or gain reduction applied. If we want to reset it quickly, we can press
the flat button in the bottom left corner. Another quick way to adjust the EQ is to click
and drag the yellow circles on the graph at the top. The first plugin under modulation is the Sonitus
Modulator. This is used to create chorus and flanger
sounds, and there’s a few presets available at the top to choose from. The rate controls how fast the modulation
oscillates. The phase, depth, and delay all work together
to change the amount of modulation that is produced. At the end, we have a dry/wet mix control
and an output volume, since modulation effects can lower a track’s volume. Next up is the Sonitus Reverb plugin. Unlike some of the reverb plugins you may
be familiar with, this one has no presets to start with. Luckily, it’s a pretty straightforward reverb
to use and produces a smooth spacey feel that sounds nice without too much effort. At the top we have our input gain to adjust
the level going into the effect. Next is the Low cut and high cut to adjust
the frequencies of our track. Reverb can get reallu messy really quickly,
especially if there is a lot of low end in your track. Below that we have the predelay, room size,
and diffusion that are used to adjust the reverb timing and size. The bass multiplier adjusts the decay time
of the bass frequencies, below the frequency set by the crossover. A value below 1 means the bass will decay
faster than the rest of the reverb, and a value above one means it will take longer
to decay. The decay time sets how long it takes the
reverb to decay and has an impact on the perceived room size. With a short decay time, it sounds like a
small room. A long decay time makes it sound like a larger
room. High dampening causes the high frequencies
to stop reverberating faster than the lower frequencies since they are absorbed first. The last controls are for the dry signal level,
early reflections, and reverb sound. Adjust these to get the right balance of reverb
for your mix. That covers the main effects plugins you’ll
end up using with Cakewalk. There are also quite a few additional effects
under the FX chain dropdown. These are mostly organized by instrument or
use. They can all be used if you want to make a
certain track sound different, and they’re all labeled by what track they should be applied
to and how they change the sound. Each of these has their own different controls,
and you’ll just need to play around with them if you use them on a track. Thanks for checking out this video on effects

In this chapter you’re going to learn new features in iOS 6 which were designed to make your programming life easier. These features they touch on a variety of aspects in the javascript language and have chosen to combine them in one chapter to make the course structure really easy to navigate through these features they touch on data types like strings they touch on objects functions arrays and so on. So first we’re going to start with templates Liberals first. We’re gonna go back to iOS 5 and have a quick quick example where you had to concatenate strings so let’s define a couple of variables. First name and last name saving is five. If you want it to log. Hello. Followed by the first name and then the last name. You have to do something like this. Using the plus operator right. And this worked perfectly. Now in E6 there is a new feature which will make your programming experience a lot easier as expected and this feature is called the templates literally. So instead of concatenate in strings using a B plus operator you actually write the whole string using template later liberals. So you’ll find this character of the bottom left hand side of your keyboard. Close to the control button. So inside the template is liberals you can write your whole sentence like this. Hello First Name Last Name like this. Now you go back to your variables with a variable first name he’s gonna be surrounded with curly brackets and you place a dollar sign just before it’s on the same thing. Same thing happens to this one any place at all a sign just before and now if you try this it works just like that’s one. So you can see like this since X now is a lot easier. Now there is something else that template strings will help you do in iOS 6. That’s where it’s when it comes to multi line strings. So for example in years 5 if you wanted to create a string it’s quick text 5 where you’ve got a line return. So you have to do some something like this. So here is a new line and where you wanted to start a new line you had to place a backslash and for a new line. Now in iOS in iOS 6 things are a lot easier. You can do this using templates laterals so instead of I’m gonna use const and this sentence can go inside templates liberals like this and rather than using the box light and we can just do a line return like this and it’s going to render us expected with a line written so you can see that template literally is a good example showing how E6 makes writing code a lot easier than before. There are many other features which we will explore in the coming videos.

Welcome to the METAL GEAR SURVIVE
Tokyo Game Show 2016 gameplay demonstration. The following is the latest gameplay footage
of METAL GEAR SURVIVE. Like MGSV: THE PHANTOM PAIN, in METAL GEAR SURVIVE, you progress through
the story by completing missions. Today we will show you one type of mission in the game:
a co-op mission. In METAL GEAR SURVIVE’s story, Mother Base soldiers fight to stay alive as they try to return home after being
transported to an alternate world. Other people and objects from various worlds end up here after being transported
through wormholes as well. The Mother Base soldiers must
gather materials, build tools, and make use of whatever they can find
as they search for a way back to their world. The objective of today’s mission is to place a transmitter
at the site of a special wormhole in order to send out a distress signal. This is our destination. Today we’ll split into two teams
for our infiltration. Doing this should allow us to secure
materials more efficiently. There’s a creature. This is the most frequently encountered
enemy in this world. It’s missing part of its head.
It probably can’t see very well. It’s dangerous to take on
multiple enemies head-on. Let’s go ahead and use a lure. Looks like the sound and the smell
got their attention. That lump on the creature’s back
is its weak point. Attacking this will result
in instant death. In METAL GEAR SURVIVE, you can
make use of creatures as materials as well. Let’s secure this one. We’ll use the Wormhole Extraction device
from MGSV. Before we proceed to the objective,
let’s grab materials from this building. There’s a creature in front of the entrance. Let’s work together to eliminate it. The slingshot is an effective weapon
in a situation like this. If you catch an enemy by surprise
and hit it on its horn, you can stun it for several seconds. We got it. As you can see, it’s also possible to take out enemies
by utilizing the environment. Let’s secure these materials. They’ll come in handy for something. How’s our other team doing? Let’s check in on them. Our team that went on ahead is also gathering materials
while they infiltrate. Some creatures are there… Let’s proceed without being spotted. There’s a creature up ahead. Looks like one of the team
has an injured leg. Injuries lead to various disadvantages
depending on the type. We’d better treat that quickly. Treating injuries
requires medical items. Gathering materials and crafting items
are important elements when it comes to undertaking missions
in METAL GEAR SURVIVE. With that injury taken care of,
let’s get back to the mission. We’re nearly at the objective. The objective is just up ahead, but several creatures are in our way. Hey, it’s a sheep! He must’ve been transported here as well. As a fellow castaway,
I’m sure he won’t mind helping us out. For this we’ll use the Fulton Cannon, which also appears in Metal Gear Online,
MGSV’s multiplayer mode. We’ve made the sheep move. And we got him! That said, there’s no recovery chopper
in this world. Sorry, little fella,
you’ll have to float there for a bit. The creatures have been drawn
to the sheep’s bleating. That takes care of all of them. I’d say he’s earned
a rest back at base camp. There’s the objective. There are a lot of enemies… To place the transmitter safely,
we’ll have to take them all out. We’ll use this marker
to send a rendezvous signal. They’ve got the signal.
Let’s hurry and link up. Let’s go ahead and eliminate the creatures
and secure the objective. We’ve secured the objective. Time to begin the second phase. Let’s switch from our infiltration mission
to a defense mission, where we protect the transmitter
from enemy attack. Now let’s place the transmitter. The transmitter is also transported
using wormhole technology. The distress signal
has started broadcasting. We’ll keep a look out
from a good vantage point. A cardboard box has come through a wormhole. Someone from the team will go secure it. Creatures have been drawn to
the energy from the wormhole, activated by the transmitter. We need to protect the transmitter
while it broadcasts the distress signal. A teammate requested help
with the defense. Let’s go to the location of the signal. Defense Units such as fences
can also be transported and placed using wormholes. Units can be placed wherever
they would work best for defense. Let’s see how the others are doing. He is the one who went out
to secure the cardboard box. As you can see, during missions you can
divide roles for various tasks besides combat. Looks like we got some good materials. We protected the area. But the next wave is on its way, so let’s beef up our defenses. This is a crafting table. If you have materials on-hand,
you can craft items during missions as well. We’ll craft some barricades. We’ve gotten word from our lookout.
The next attack has begun. This barricade is made of barbed wires,
able to harm the enemies. Let’s place the fences. This is one of the basic defense elements. In addition to fighting,
you can’t forget to secure materials as well. There are enemies over there.
Let’s try to go unnoticed Intruders through the window! More coming! Let’s place a marker to let the others know. We managed to repel the enemy attack. Our teammate who went out to secure
some materials is coming back. Did he bring back new friends? Seems that our teammate was spotted
while securing the materials. We managed to fight them off. Next wave is coming! Let’s use the materials
from that cardboard box to craft a machine gun. Now we can lay down fire across a wide area. The enemies are getting closer
on the other side too. There are a lot of enemies this time. This is gonna be tough. The fence’s durability is affected by weight. If a lot of creatures press against a fence,
it won’t stay up for long. Enemies keep coming, we are in trouble. Our fence is gone! Enemies are in now,
there’s too many of them! It looks like we’re pulling out. Today’s mission didn’t go so smoothly… Well, that’s it for the METAL GEAR SURVIVE
2016 Tokyo Game Show gameplay demonstration. While today’s mission ended in failure, we hope this gave you a taste of
what co-op missions have to offer. This game will feature a variety of

we have seen now let’s do a quick tutorial on how to make a cloth,
let’s make a small skirt let’s call it a skirty to model a skirty we do “3” “5” “5” build using SHIFT-A let’s build a cylinder “s” shrink it until it is more or less
close to the size of our skirty ok lift it up let’s suppose these are the sizes we are interested in let’s remember we can keep it this way right now we can use the known technique

add a material so it is more visible set the color to a birght green ok then to see it press f12 we are not seeing it.. but go to object mode we see that it’s enough good enough if we are satisfied apply the modifier to apply the modifier go to object mode choose the modifier and apply it now we have this skirty which is
made of 320 vertices done, we can fix it we could align it you see
there are some imperfections, but it’s good enough what I wanted to show you is how to “parent” the skirty with my armature, how we can do it go in object mode select skirty and then shift right click we have selected two things at the same time
first the skirty and then the armature press “control p” put armature deform with empty groups
this can be ok empty groups means that – we can check this if we selected only the skirty now we have the armature if we
go on the vertices we see all the bones and we can see the the specific weights (weight paint) selecting single bone we see it is completely blue this is correct for these bones, obviously they are blue
since they are higher bones but if we get hip this is blu but we should color it we can exploit the fact that we actually have a base coloring in the base avatar so we might simply copy i.e. take as basis the basic avatar
and copy weights on our piece of clothing to do that with the skirty go in object mode select base avatar then shirt
and as second and last selection the skirty go in weight paint… when being in weight paint
“weight tools” appear here we have some new features in Blender 2.67 you can choose “transfer weights”
and this is the outstanding function not existing before select “transfer weights”
and weights are magically transferred check that all vertex groups are transferred use the nearest face method (there are other options)
but we are ok with the default to begin with and to see how you can do we can start with

lightbox setting it to yes. Now when I click on the image it will open up.
Number 5 change the lightbox background color This is also done globally. I can
choose any color I wish and when I click on the image the background color will
change to the color I chose. Number 6 disable the lightbox preview in the editor. This is done by switching off this setting what this does is prevent
the lightbox from opening up when I click in the editor it will still open
up in the live site. Number 7 gallery and carousel slider lightbox. This works
pretty similarly to image lightbox, I click on the gallery and link to media
file. I’ll do the same for the carousel slider. Now when I click on the gallery
it opens up and I can browse through all the images
that I want. Number 8 video lightbox. to switch video lightbox on I click on
the video and under image overlay I switch on lightbox.
Now when I press the video the light box pops up. This has been eight options you
